Become a certified professional in Requirements Engineering and Management

The International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB) is a leading nonprofit organization that aims to advance the Requirements discipline. IREB has established a Certification Program for Requirements Engineering (CPRE), which is recognized worldwide. The exams are administered by the International Software Quality Institute (iSQI).

The program consists of four levels:

• Level 1: Foundation Level
• Level 2: Practitioner Certificate (formerly Advanced Level Practioner)
• Level 3: Specialist Certificate (formerly Advanced Level Specialist)
• Expert Level

This course will prepare you for the exam Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering Modeling Level 2: Practitioner. You will meet the criteria set by IREB and learn the international standards, methods and techniques for Requirements Modeling.

After obtaining the Level 2 Practitioner certificate you can take the exam for the CPRE Elicitation Level 3: Specialist certificate.

Prior knowledge or training

Candidates for the CPRE Practitioner examination must already have received the CPRE Level 1: Foundation certificate.

Structure of this training

Discover the essentials of Requirements Engineering in this interactive three-day training. You will learn about Requirements Engineering from both theoretical and practical perspectives. You will also engage in exercises and discussions to develop your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. To help you prepare for the certification exam, you will take mock tests during the course and review the curriculum in the evenings. The certification is optional and consists of two parts:

• The level 2: The practitioner exam: this is a 75-minute multiple-choice exam that tests your knowledge of the core concepts and techniques of Requirements Engineering. If you need to take the exam in a language other than your native one, you can request a 15-minute extension.
• The level 3: The specialist exam: this is a paper-based exam that requires you to write a report on a realistic project situation from your own experience, demonstrating your ability to apply the acquired RE skills.

• Why modeling?
• Sorts of requirements models, terminology and concepts
• What are the advantages of modeling requirements and what defines the quality of a requirements model?

Context modeling

• Why model the context of a system?
• Modeling context with data flow diagrams and use case diagrams
• Other ways to model context

Modeling an information structure

• Syntax and semantics of UML class diagrams
• Heuristics for defining classes, attributes and data types.
• Heuristics for relations (aggregations and compositions) and generalizations
• Practical tips for making class diagrams

Modeling dynamic aspects

• Use case diagrams
• Structuring large numbers of use cases in packages
• Data flow and control flow modeling
• Activity diagrams, their relationship with use cases and scenario modeling
• Handling complexity by decomposition of functions in data flow diagrams and activity diagrams
• Modeling state machines with state machine diagrams

Scenario modeling

• Modeling scenario’s with UML sequence diagrams
• Relationships between scenario’s, context modeling and use cases
• Modeling scenario’s with context diagrams
